Jonathan's Fathers Day Message ~ 2009

Broken Walls is committed to the heart of the Father!
Jonathan has written a special message
in honor of Father's Day 2009.
Please read and feel free to share with your loved ones
- within your own family circle and beyond!

~ FATHER’S DAY 2009 ~
This is a time of restoration for our fathers!

God is calling men to rise out of the ashes and take
their place as fathers, husbands, dad's, mentors, brothers, uncles, grandfathers and neighbors! If we are going to see hope for the next generations then we must realize the importance of our role……

We cannot allow the bitterness and unforgiveness
of the past to be our motivation for tomorrow!
We must follow the course of wisdom and learn from the experience of others.

So many of our elders are being made to feel
as though they have nothing to offer. We tend to treat some better than others according to their good life and perceived wisdom. There are those who made wrong choices in life and are living the results of their choices. We can learn from these as well. We need to restore them back to health and self-respect by listening to their stories as well, by saying, "Your stories will help us make better decisions for future generations.”

This is a new day and God is restoring the hearts of men and giving us new places to stand, to mentor and bring life and leadership to our families and communities. We must realize that our homes, families and communities need us to be who we were created to be….men who care and are willing to say, "I'm sorry or I forgive you”. These are life changing and destiny changing words that can bring peace and hope to hearts around you.

It's up to each one of us to accept our roles and act. Make the changes in our lives from self-pity, shame, unforgiveness, bitterness, and whatever holds us from our rightful destiny.

Ask yourself... What legacy will I leave behind? I always say to my children that they need to live their lives in such a way that the world will be a better place because of them. We must determine to take the high road and be encouragers of one another, never being a part of the "put down". Dads, our children learn this from us. They see us and mimic us in life. I've seen so many kids that hate the fact that their dad is an alcoholic, but turn out to be one themselves. It's up to us now to break this cycle and stand with dignity and say to one another, "It's time for change and it's going to start with me!"

Ask Jesus to help you! Then, choose to follow the inner voice as He leads you to a place of confidence in who you are and the gifts He has placed in you for this purpose. It will never be easy to always do what's right, but the returns will be worth the sacrifice when you see the joy in lives around you.
I love the place of fatherhood and am so glad I get the privilege to hear my kids say "Dad, you're the best!”

Men, don't sell yourselves short, be all you were called to be.... Struggle with all you have in you to do what's right!
The Holy Spirit will guide you and you will win.

Commit to Life!
Your brother, Jonathan Maracle

Broken Walls Biography

Broken Walls was conceived in 1995 by Jonathan Maracle (a Mohawk from Tyendinaga Territory in Ontario, Canada) while attending a conference called the Sacred Assembly in Ottawa/Hull. As different First Nations speakers shared, they spoke of the walls that have been built between the visitors to this land and the First Nations people, Jonathan began to see the need for these walls to be broken and wrote the song “Broken Walls” on the spot and performed it on the drum at this Gathering.

Broken Walls now consists of Bill Pagaran (Tlingit) from Palmer, Alaska on the drums, Kris DeLorenzi (Italian) from Thunder Bay, Ontario on bass and backup vocals, and Jonathan Maracle (Mohawk) lead vocalist and guitarist. Broken Walls base many of their songs on the ancient sounds of the First Nations People of North America and often perform around their large Pow Wow drum, singing songs of and to the Creator. The band has a team of First Nations Dancers that often accompany them in full regalia when they perform.

Broken Walls travels year round and has toured worldwide over the past 10 years performing in places such as Peru, Mexico, China, Hawaii, France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Israel, Costa Rica, and extensively across North America. They have taken the healing quality of their music into many places where restoration and reconciliation were needed, with great results.

Broken Walls has released 8 albums to date. Their latest CD, “The Father’s Dance”, released January 2008, is an inspiring musical journey and a call to freedom. This full band world music album has a distinctively Native American sound and beautifully unites traditional aboriginal sounds of rattles, Pow Wow drum, and Mohawk wind flute together with a blend of contemporary instruments. “The Father’s Dance” presents powerful songs with a message of restoration for the family, meant to stir the heart to dance in the presence of our Creator.
